Pack Your Bags!
We are going on a road trip, so it is time to pack our bags! We will need some tech tools and travel documents to take with us.
After going over goals and expectations of this project, school-owned iPads are used to take the participants on a QR code scavenger hunt. In small groups, teachers read clues and scan QR codes that eventually take them to their final destination where they find boxes wrapped in maps. They are instructed to bring the boxes back to the library. The group opens their presents at the same time and find new iPads! We hear, “Are you kidding me?”,“Is this for real?, etc. There are even tears by some.
Note: We had a grant that allowed us to purchase technology devices for the participants.
The group learns how to set up their iPads with school accounts, how to request apps, and how to turn on certain features. We emphasize learning how to use this new tool to make their professional lives easier and more efficient (DropBox, Evernote, etc.). It is important to put the devices in their hands to give teachers time to explore and get comfortable with the device.
The group is also equipped with the appropriate travel documents - Common Core Standards, ISTE's NETS, and our district's technology expectations. We show how to download the PDFs of these documents into iBooks and download the Mastery Connect Common Core app for easy reference. Links to those files as well as other important links used throughout the two days are on the Road Trip web site (http://roadtrip12.weebly.com).
